New technology is creating many new avenues of communication. And it is a great way to engage students since they are early adopters of new tech.

It is looking link students will be getting mobile phones -- and perhaps many will have ipads and other tablets instead -- from many sources. Perhaps the federal and state governments will be the source for some. But, as you say, many kids have and will have their own mobiles. There are also private foundations and other sources that are eager to provide funding for education. Whatever kind of mobile device that browses the internet will do the job.
Thanks for your question and comment, Judy Breck

Would the mobile phone be provided by the government/state or are you assuming each student would have their own mobile? If I were a kid today, I'm pretty sure my mom wouldn't buy a mobile phone period, no matter the fact that plenty of kids have them. Kids from poorer backgrounds may not have access to mobile phones.
