I have just been granted an efellowship to be released from my teaching duties for a whole year to conduct research into the potential of mobiles in the classroom...  When I tell people about my research they just aren&#039;t getting that we will VERY soon be embracing this technology rather than hiding it in the bottoms of school bags and even getting detectors to find out who in class has one on them to get rid of them!

Reading blogs and posts like this one reminds me that I am on the right track!  I hope that one of the most valuable outcomes of my research will be the practical strategies that teachers can begin to use with handheld devices - whatever form they may take - in their classrooms and lessons.

I find it fascinating that one of the reasons teachers currently dismiss the use of these devices for classroom use is the &#039;distraction&#039; to students&#039; learning...  Is it not our job to interest and engage them with the material they are learning?  Would they still be using these devices inappropriately if they were engaged with the content?</description>
