Sit Down with Greatness

Posted on 15th April 2004 by Judy Breck in Subject Sampler

The Internet connects us in several new ways to important and great people. The Churchill Center is a distinguished example of a digital depository designed to let a visitor browse and engage the person and works of a giant of history.
On an opening page of the Centre, Sir Winston greets the visitor with these words: “Don’t be content with things as they are. The earth is yours and the fullness thereof.” The Internet is quickly bringing that fullness within the reach of everyone.
The drawing of Churchill on this post is from a new Library of Congress online exhibit called“Churchill and the Great Republic.”

The connectivity of the Internet is a huge factor in delivering the most current medical treatment. There are even programs where during surgery in remote locations the surgeon on the scene is connected to an advising mentor who watches and guides the procedure via broadband digital connection. There are other excellent websites like the Mayo Clinic here that offer comprehensive medical and health information available in no other way to millions, and potentially billions, of people.
